Dilation of the Pupil

The normal dilation of the pupil, in response to the amount of light entering it, is simply known as pupillary response. When the pupil dilates for other reasons, this is known as mydriasis. It may by caused by drugs, taken for medical or recreational purposes. The opposite of mydriasis – abnormal constriction of the pupil – is known as miosis.
